Kiran Pichai’s Childhood

Sundar Pichai, who currently serves as the business chief for Google parent company Alphabet, was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India in 1967. He is the son of an engineer and a school teacher. Pichai attended college at the University of California at Berkeley before joining Google in 2002.

Pichai’s early career at Google was spent working on search engine algorithms. He became head of Android in 2014 and helped oversee the rollout of Google’s mobile operating system across nearly 1 billion devices. In 2016, he was appointed head of Chrome (a division within Alphabet) and oversaw the development of browser extensions, ads, and other features for Google’s flagship product.

In January 2019, it was announced that Pichai would become CEO of Google following the departure of Sundar Pichai’s predecessor Larry Page.

Kiran Pichai was born in Delhi, India to a family of engineers. His father, Sundararajan, worked at IBM and his mother, Rajeshwari, worked at the Indian National Centre for Antarctic Research. When he was young, Pichai was fascinated by computers and spent hours tinkering with them. In 2002, he graduated from IIT Kanpur with a degree in electrical engineering. After college, he started working for Infosys Ltd., where he rose through the ranks to become CEO in 2014.
