Thomas James Burris, Jr. was born on November 13, 1992 in Cincinnati, OH. When he was just two years old, his family relocated to Atlanta, GA. Thomas began playing organized baseball at the age of six and quickly developed into one of the top prospects in the area. In 2010, Burris led Georgia to a state championship as a sophomore at Hollywood Christian School.

The following year, he signed with the Texas Rangers as an unranked prospect and made his professional debut that season with their rookie-level team in Frisco. After posting a 2-2 record with a 3.37 ERA in 11 appearances (10 starts), Texas promoted him to Class A Advanced Hickory where he posted a 5-3 record with 156 strikeouts over 139 innings pitched. He was subsequently named the Rangers’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year for 2012.

In 2013, Burris returned to Hickory and posted an even better campaign (14-7 record with 2.89 ERA).
